Liquid Damage

Today I received a call from a customer who had accidentally spilled some coffee on her MacBook Pro.

She explained that it happened 2 hours ago, and that the mac was working fine immediately afterwards however then it turned off by itself and now it doesn’t turn back on and the MagSafe charger light is not showing.

I explained to her that the mac could still be wet inside, and that it is very important to stop using a computer after there is a spillage. What usually happens is the mac is still wet inside and then as the mac is on and electricity is running through the mac it causes some of the electrical components to short out.

I asked her to bring the mac over to me so I could open it up and dry it out free of charge.

She arrived after 30 minutes and I immediately got to work. With liquid spillages it is important to get the mac opened and dried out straight away.

After I had removed all of the components and dried the mac out it became clear that the coffee had caused some corrosion on the main logic board.

I called the customer and explained the logic board would need to be cleaned. She obliged and was happy for me to go ahead with the repair.

After 2 hours of cleaning, repairing and testing I called the customer with the good news that her mac was repaired and working perfectly.

Another happy customer!
